First Presbyterian Church has a rich tradition and vibrant continuing life in serving those in most need in our local community and in sharing the good news of Jesus Christ both far and wide. We see missions as an extension of our worship, where we are sent out to love God and love our neighbor. We are so glad that you are interested in learning more about local and global programs and partners who help us take the gospel into ALL the world.

Holston Presbytery Camp
Ours is a tradition of small group camping with a big group plan. We encourage campers to embark on a journey of the mind, body and spirit. It’s a journey that requires a knapsack that we supply with independence, self-reliance, curiosity, creativity, and faith. We learn to work, play, sing, and worship together. We furnish minds and bodies with skills essential for physical, social, and character development with an emphasis on Christian values.

The river
The River is a place for ALL women to help themselves through core services that provide basic needs and support services that assist in living self sufficiently. We are open Monday-Friday from 8 am to 3 pm. Since opening our doors on October 4, 2004, The River has served over 1,000 women and children in need. Many are without support networks and are at severe risk of falling between the cracks into greater poverty, homelessness, and desperation. The River has several core programs developed to meet the basic and supportive needs of the women and children we serve. For some women, The River is a stepping stone to self-sufficiency. For most women, The River assists in meeting basic needs on a daily basis. Guests value The River for its comprehensive and unique programs and for the compassionate and respectful manner in which they are offered. We believe that every woman has gifts and strengths that she can build on to be successful. It is our hope that The River can bring new life!
